iOS 17 could be bigger than hoped— here are the features I want

In the weekly newsletter of Mark Gurman, he mentioned his words on all the doings at Apple HQ. The source is significant. If you’re a fan of new iOS features, this is a good week. Not only does iOS 16.4 bring 21 new emojis along with some tweaks and improvements, but the latest iOS 17 rumors suggest that this year’s iPhone software update won’t be as tedious as initially feared. In fact, several new features may be included in iOS 17.

Apple might have some notable iOS changes in the works after all.

iOS 17 was going to be more of a maintenance update as originally reported by Mark Gurman as Apple devoted its energies to the launch of its VR/AR headset later this year.

Things seem to have changed, however, as now Gurman writes that iOS 17 should get “several ‘nice’ features” — not big additions like iOS 16’s customizable lock screen, but some popular user-friendly features under the hood.

Mark Gurman said that he has no knowledge of what Apple might have planned for iOS 17, but if I was in charge of the to-do list, these potential features would be pretty close to the top like reinventing the mail app Pin Notes to your home screen, manage subscriptions, and potentially other features.

According to the report, frictionless interaction could be the theme of the year. According to the information at the top, iOS 17 indicates that the next iOS update will focus more on improving existing features rather than adding new ones. This really means that users will receive customization tools to enhance their iPhone experience.

It probably benefits the lock screen the most and more customization tools are expected to receive such as new fonts, new widgets and lock screens with different focus modes.

A fully customized lock screen could also be possibly shared with other users as suggested by the leaked information. This could be facilitated by a Marketplace app, although that seems like a remote possibility.

Alternative app stores on the iPhone in Europe as mandated by the digital markets act are also expected to be permitted by iOS 17 as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. By mid-2024 this version is expected to be updated.

Other additions could revolve around Dynamic Island, which should appear on all upcoming iPhone 15s. More real-time activities and lock screen widgets can be brought to the home screen.

It is important to note that all the features discussed are based on leaks and rumors, and it is uncertain if they will be included in iOS 17. The features will be confirmed after an official announcement.
