Sony Interactive Entertainment, Microsoft, and Nintendo will not be part of E3 2023, according to a report from IGN citing “numerous knowledgeable sources”. While Microsoft just verified that it “will be back in Los Angeles this summer for our annual showcase,” it did not determine whether it would take place as part of E3 2023.
Talking to IGN last week, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer told it was time to showcase it at a suitable time for the press and even customers, indicating it could be around the same time as E3 2023. time will be systematized.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has not taken part in E3 since E3 2018. Neither the Entertainment Software Association, which operates E3, nor any of the 3 platform holders have commented on IGN’s report.
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) currently has a statement in response to IGN’s story – saying that it remains committed to E3. Here it is in full:
As you may have seen, IGN published a blog about E3 last night. While we are not capable to comment on the specific assertions in the blog, we want to share our dedication to moving ahead with E3.
E3 has a rich past within our enterprise, and we are always heartened to feel the affection for the show and listen to what it means to various people. Resurrecting a tradeshow after a 3-year break and a global pandemic was always going to have its challenges, which is why we ran an extensive search (in consultation with the ESA partner organizations) to determine the finest partner to produce E3. In selecting ReedPOP as our partner, we have been capable to tap into their rich past of hosting famous enterprise events, like PAX, and broader customer shows, like Comic Con.
They have created powerful progress in reshaping the event and have obtained tremendous support from enterprise organizations of all dimensions who are not only assuming about E3 2023 but how E3 fits into marketing strategies for 2024 and beyond.
It’s essential to note that even as the show develops and adapts, it will not affect the core of ESA’s work for its partner organizations. Our preference remains advocating for your policy interests on the state and national levels.
We will definitely share news and developments regarding E3 as they are available for you guys. Meanwhile, Xbox is noted by IGN to host a different physical showcase at the Los Angeles Convention Center the weekend before E3 2023, with ReedPop performing.
