Yahoo Messenger, which is an instant messaging app, will shut down on July 17, 2018. It’s the end of an era for Yahoo messaging app, one of the primary and first instant messaging apps on the market.

Users will not be able to access its services, including chats after July 17.

Formerly when the Yahoo messaging app shuts down, users will be redirected to a new Squirrel service that the company has been beta-testing from last month.

The users are able to download their chat history for the next six months.

While For Squirrel, users will have to request for beta access.

“There currently isn’t a replacement product available for Yahoo Messenger,” the company writes.

“We’re regularly testing new services and apps, one of which is an invite-only group messaging app called Yahoo Squirrel (currently in beta).”

Do mark that the user’s Yahoo ID will resume working for other Yahoo products, like Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Fantasy, and more.

To download chat history, Yahoo Messenger users will require to go to the downloader request site and sign in.

Following, a verification method requires to be picked and later enter the Account Key.

Users can click Download and enter the email wherever they want the file exported and click OK.

The company suggests deleting the Yahoo Messenger app after downloading chat history.

On March 8, 1998, Yahoo published Yahoo Pager and later renamed it as Yahoo Messenger.

Yahoo Messenger obtained to be the first genuine program for real-time communication that granted options to send images and real-time updates.

The older version of Messenger was shut down on August 5, 2016, as the company chose to streamline its services and focus on its strength.

The new version of Yahoo Messenger was launched in December 2015. Yahoo’s core operating business was recently sold off to Verizon for $4.8 billion.
